The 2020 Around the Globe Online Piano Competition

In these burdensome and extraordinary times due to the global pandemic, we are proud to have been able to present and organise a very successful Around the Globe Online Piano Competition 2020 for Junior and Adult amateur pianists, an event that lasted for three days at the end of November/December 2020. Although organising these events were full of challenges and with much dedication from AGMA team, which includes professionals and volunteers, the popularity of the online piano competition especially in Junior Categories, came as a great reward and a very stimulating impetus for the organisation.

This year, we were hosts to a large number of amazingly talented young candidates from as far as Singapore, Germany, Poland, Serbia and different parts of the UK. We were thrilled to be able to enjoy watching and listening to their quality piano performances recorded for the Second Round, on the ZOOM social platform.

These include excellent performances of the lesser-known piano works of classical contemporary and jazz styles by composers such as Mehran Rouhani, Tonci Huljic, Wang Hua Chu, Hitoshi Sakimoto and many others. However, the more significant response was of the entries for the classical and traditional styles classes for this piano competition. In addition, Recital Classes in all Junior Categories were hugely popular as well as Free Choice and Grade Repertoire classes. There were many outstanding players of traditional styles of Chopin, Haydn, Scarlatti, Rachmaninoff, Bartok, and many more.

The adjudication and live spoken feedbacks from our highly praised adjudicators, including Piano Professors Olga Dudnik, Melanie Spanswick, Marina Petrov and Tau Wei, have added to the overall excitement to the experience of these virtual events to our participants, their families, piano teachers as well as a wider online audience. Furthermore, the distinctly educational value of the adjudication work and judges’ comments were also highly appreciated by all involved.

We also want to thank all the candidates for their participation as well as supporters including family, teachers, friends and other viewers. Moreover, we would like to express our gratitude to all involved in the process of creating this online piano competition along with our enthusiastic and very supportive sponsors.

We are sending the warmest holiday wishes to you and yours during this beautiful season. Wishing you all that is merry and bright for the New Year ahead!

Take care and stay safe!

Warmest wishes from AGMA Directors Maya Jordan and Marina Petrov and the whole AGMA Team
